Mohamed Hany becomes the first player to score two own goals at a single men’s World Cup

 Mohamed Hany becomes only the second player in history to score two own goals in a single World Cup.

The precedents:

1966 — Todor Vutzov (Bulgaria)

2026 — Mohamed Hany (Egypt)

His own goal is the 13th of the tournament, surpassing the previous World Cup record of 12 set in 2018, making this the highest number of own goals ever recorded in a single edition of the World Cup and in the competition’s history.
