Man utd grants bayindir extended leave as he is expected to depart

Manchester United goalkeeper Bayindir has been granted additional leave and is expected to depart.

Bayindir, 28, played for Turkey in the World Cup this summer but did not feature in any of their three group stage matches. Turkey failed to advance from their group, with their last game being a victory over the United States on June 26. Bayindir has completed his mandatory three weeks of statutory holiday, but neither he nor Amad will return to Manchester United's Carrington training ground this week.

Taylor Fletcher, who was an unused substitute in all three of Scotland's World Cup matches, reported back to duty last week. Amad featured in all four of Ivory Coast's World Cup matches, scoring the winning goal against Ecuador and also finding the net in their 1-0 defeat to Norway in the Round of 16.

According to The Sun, former Fenerbahçe goalkeeper Bayindir is expected to return to Turkey, with Beşiktaş a potential destination. Bayindir has not played for Manchester United since another error in their 3-1 away defeat to Brentford on September 27 last year. In the 17 games he started, Manchester United lost 7 and conceded 31 goals.

Last season, Alessandro Amorim controversially chose Bayindir over André Onana as the starting goalkeeper, but Manchester United lost three of their first six Premier League matches. Bayindir was responsible for goals conceded against Arsenal, Manchester City, and Brentford.

Bayindir joined Manchester United on deadline day in 2023 for £4.1 million but made only one appearance in his debut season, in an FA Cup tie against League Two side Newport County. Rhamani is now firmly established as Manchester United's primary goalkeeper, and the club completed the signing of backup goalkeeper Darlow last week. Third-choice goalkeeper Heaton signed a new one-year deal, and academy goalkeeper Dermot Mee also received an extension.

Even if Amad and Bayindir return this week, they will miss Manchester United's friendly match against Rosenborg in Norway on Friday.
