African teams nearly wiped out: seven of nine exit, Morocco and Egypt advance on penalties
In the group stage of the FIFA World Cup, African teams performed exceptionally well, with 9 out of 10 teams—excluding Tunisia—advancing to the knockout stage. However, after the Round of 32, only 2 of the 9 African teams remained.
Among them, South Africa, Côte d'Ivoire, DR Congo, Senegal, and Cape Verde were all eliminated by last-minute goals, while only Morocco and Egypt successfully advanced through penalty shootouts.

In the Round of 16, Morocco will face host nation Canada, and Egypt will face defending champions Argentina.
