Although the US team successfully advanced to the FIFA World Cup Round of 16, former US team coach Gregg Berhalter was not satisfied with Pochettino's tactical approach in the 2-0 victory over Bosnia and Herzegovina, believing that Pulisic should have been utilized more.
"I just want to talk briefly about Pulisic, because I don't know if you remember when his first touch came?" Gregg Berhalter asked.
"That attack actually came from us playing out of our formation, which was almost a 3-1-6. Bosnia and Herzegovina, as Bob mentioned, played a 5-3-2.
They moved towards our back three first, but when the next pass went to our open center-back, their midfield was freed up.
When they did that, Antony-Robinson was pushed high, Malik Tillman was also pushed high, Pulisic was on the wing, and we played the ball in.
Malik ran in behind the defense, while Pulisic cut towards the middle of the field like a knife, quickly darting across.
"That was a very dangerous attack."
Berhalter then stated that he wanted to see Pulisic play like that more often, and also felt that the US team did not show enough intent against Bosnia and Herzegovina to "unleash" him.
He continued: "I would have liked to have seen more of that: stay wide, receive the ball, go one-on-one, and then let others make runs from there."
"I don't think we did enough of that. I don't think we showed enough intent to get the ball to Pulisic and really let him play freely."
