DHS allows Iran to arrive 2 days early in Seattle for match, depart same day after
Iran will be allowed to arrive two days early for their match against Egypt in Seattle, Reuters reported, citing a U.S. Department of Homeland Security spokesperson.
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security is adjusting travel regulations for the Iranian national team ahead of their match against Egypt in Seattle on Friday. The Iranian team will be permitted to travel to Washington State two days before the match. After the match, the team will depart the same evening.
A U.S. spokesperson said: "The Iranian team will be allowed to arrive two days before their June 26 match in Seattle. They must depart on the evening of the match." He added: "President Trump wants to ensure that people focus on what happens on the field. A large part of this arrangement is to ensure security, both within the stadium and at the training facility."
The adjustment accounts for the distance between venues: Seattle is a 3-hour flight from Tijuana, Mexico, where Iran will be based, whereas Los Angeles, where Iran's first two matches were held, is only a 45-minute flight away.
