Aduku optimistic as Falconets step up World Cup qualifying preparations

 Head coach Moses Aduku has given a positive assessment of the Nigeria U20 women’s team, the Falconets, as they intensify preparations for their third-round FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup qualifying clash against Senegal. 

According to Aduku, the team’s camping period has been fruitful, with all invited players reporting as scheduled and showing strong commitment during training sessions.

He noted that the technical crew has concentrated on improving tactical discipline, team chemistry and overall match approach, while the players have responded with high levels of dedication and focus.

The coach stressed that the immediate priority is the Senegal encounter, particularly the need to take advantage of the home leg.

He explained that recent friendly matches have helped the coaching staff evaluate the squad and fine-tune their style of play, with emphasis on sharpening the attack without losing defensive stability.

Aduku described the team’s performances in these test games as promising.

Nigeria will welcome Senegal to the Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan for the first leg on Saturday, 7 February, before the return match in Dakar on Saturday, 14 February.

The Falconets are expected to move their camp to Ibadan on 27 January to step up final preparations.

While avoiding specific predictions, Aduku expressed confidence in the ability and mindset of his players, pointing to their competitive showing in recent outings.

He reaffirmed the team’s resolve to do the country proud and book a place in the next round of qualification.

The winner of the Nigeria versus Senegal tie will advance to the final qualifying round, where they will face the victor of the Guinea-Bissau and Malawi encounter for one of Africa’s four slots at the tournament.

The 12th FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup will take place in Poland from 5 to 27 September 2026.
